View Full Version : Howdy 2006 Don Donatello March 20th, 2006, 07:35 PM take a look at http://www.group101films.com/ Richard Weiss March 21st, 2006, 09:52 AM Hello to all. I've been in the television Biz for 26 years. Mostly News and documentary for broadcast consortiums. Well it's time for the old dog to learn new tricks! Working w/ folks that want an all digital (really digital, no tape!), multi-cam solution for field production. AAMOF the final product will be a stream to internet. I'd guess you'd call it Multicam DFP. Rob Lohman March 21st, 2006, 10:06 AM Hello Richard, welcome aboard (H)DVInfo.net, good to have you with us! Karl Heiner March 21st, 2006, 10:38 AM welcome richard, i am in the antioch area, and consider myself at beginner level xl1-s. greetings Logan Bright March 21st, 2006, 04:18 PM Hey hey all. Just got the validation email (finally), and now am ready to post and contribute to this forum, of which I've been lurking for a good while. Well, I'm a PC user running Premiere Pro 1.5. Now, I'm not very good at editing or anything, but I get by. I have one camera, a Samsung PoC (Piece of Crap) but it works decently well. I'm currently in grade 12, taking a Communications course, and that's where I do all my work. I'm studying to become an English teacher, so that means University soon - but for now, I get all the fun of DV =) So thanks for having me on your forums, I look forward to working with you~ ~Loggie B Rob Lohman March 21st, 2006, 05:05 PM Hi Logan, welcome aboard (H)DVInfo.net, good to have you with us! Steve Sirinides March 24th, 2006, 04:51 PM Can't seem to find many Greeks running around these boards. I've seen one, but haven't heard much from him. Any other closet-Greeks hiding out here? No need to be ashamed...it took me ten years to buckle-down and decide to stay in this country. Ironically, I'm going to have to leave it soon. Perhaps I'll run into some video-loving friends in Scotland. So how about that Athenian roll-call? Robert Aldrich March 27th, 2006, 12:25 AM I joined this group a few months back with the intention of getting together with a few other filmmakers to write/direct some short scenes and then sequences, then films. When I finally did the whole thing and logged on, I tried to list myself as a director as that is my main intent, and to my surprise, they only offer categories for crew! They apparently aren't accepting directors as members, but are only a bunch of would-be directors looking for free crew! Amazing! Now, I realize everyone wants to be a director, but what cheek! I queried them on this in a comments box, (I could find no "contact" link) and the next time I logged on, I couldn't get in. Apparently my account had been deleted right away! Who are these people, anyway, who claim to have produced so many films! And not even have a way to contact them? So from that little experience, I realized, you have to make your own contacts in Hollywood, and that isn't hard, there are PLENTY of filmmakers around this town, just stand on any corner and tap someone going by, and you're likely to find one. I've done several projects since. The most sage advice I've had on filmmaking in this town has been from an European filmmaker, who I met for thirty seconds at a traffic light, (and he was on a racing bike), he said, "Just keep doing projects". And of that, there are almost too many to be found around Hollywood. You have to turn the worst of them down left and right. Bill Porter March 27th, 2006, 09:39 AM I went to an Athenian high school. True story. There might not be any other Athenians here but maybe there are some Spartans... Theodoros Chliapas March 27th, 2006, 01:33 PM No Athenian, but Kozanian at least :-). I visit Athens 5 or 6 times in the year. I was at the Platforma 05 video festival past October. Btw, i feel the same as you. I want to leave this country... Matthew Delong April 1st, 2006, 04:44 AM I'm not from WV but close enough. I live in Southern Ohio close to Huntington. What college are you attending? Ben Jacob April 2nd, 2006, 03:42 PM Hey all, My name is Ben. Just about to get myself a nice new DV cam and could use a little advice. But I am not just here to be an info leach. I worked 7 years in Hollywood as a Voice Over casting director / teacher / audio engineer and have great perspective and advice (if needed) on any voice work needed for a project. Feel free to email me with any questions, or if you need good, reliable voice actor's names/agents, I can help in the L.A area for free. OK, the project I am devoting my life to atm is a documentry on the Marsh in Arcata,CA (my current home). A project of waste water management that is world renouned in it's environmently friendly aspect. It has become a home or migratory stop to over 230 species of birds and many other critters. I hope to inspire communities throught the world to adopt this method of waste management. Therefor I am aiming for theatrical release internationally (aim high right? lol) It won't be your typical informational documentry, if all goes as planned. To best describe what I am trying for would be Ron Fricke (Baraka, shot on 70mm) type cinematography with about 30 minutes of info/interveiws. I will be shooting timelaps, using slow motion, and all will be nature shots. I am admittedly clueless when it comes to todays cameras and filming. My biggest question to start off is... which camera? I have about 7000 to invest for the cam and another 2000 for acessories. I have read a bit about the cameras in this price range and am leaning towards the Panasonic HVX200. Seams to have all my needs covered except I might need (or do i?)a stronger zoom. I would apreciate any and all advice / input. If anyone thinks another camera would be more appropriate please let me know. Thanks all, Ben Jacob Rob Lohman April 3rd, 2006, 06:52 AM Welcome aboard (H)DVInfo.net, Ben, good to have you with us! I've copied your post to our documentary forum. More people will actually see your question there since this is just an introduction forum. I've editted your post slightly for a better fit in that forum. Link to the new post: http://www.dvinfo.net/conf/showthread.php?t=64237 Good luck! Jay Villa April 7th, 2006, 12:31 PM Hello to all. My name is Jay Villa from Houston, TX. I run a mobile DJ company full time. We are getting ready to offer videography to the services we currently offer. Can anybody tell me where the general conversation area is on this forum? Thanks! Rob Lohman April 9th, 2006, 04:35 AM Hi Jay, welcome aboard (H)DV Info Net. The general forum area can be found here: Open DV Discussion (http://www.dvinfo.net/conf/forumdisplay.php?f=35) Jesse Christie April 11th, 2006, 07:31 AM As many of you may or may not know I am taking a trip to Africa in the spring of 07. I am taking a year off before going to college to save money and prepare for this trip. I live in Victoria BC and I was wondering if any of the people from Vancouver or from Victoria on this site could perhaps give me some information on a couple schools in Victoria that I could take classes on Video editing so I can become competitive in this business when I return from filming the trip. Thanks Jesse Aviv Hallale April 11th, 2006, 09:50 AM I live in South Africa and attend CityVarsity Film Production School (www.cityvarsity.co.za) At the moment our first year full-time syllabus is made up of: Directing Editing Camerawork And Lighting Scriptwriting Script Analysis Visual Literacy Media Communication History Of Art Film Appreciation In the second and third year, you can major in one of the first three. I'm going into Editing. Majoring in Editing will get you skilled in: Premiere (8 workstations with 2GBram and 2tb worth of storage space each, four DVCPRO Decks for converting DV to High Res SDI) AVID (2 AVID Unity systems) Media100 Boris Combustion After Effects There's a guy from New Jersey in my class and apparently the pricing per year for this high-end institution is the equivalent to the fee at a community college. So perhaps consider spending two years here, I can guarantee you that you'll save a lot of cash by studying here. Yoochul Chong April 13th, 2006, 01:07 AM check out the edit center in new york. they have a lot of films that go to sundance and edited by students Derrick A.Jones April 17th, 2006, 03:22 PM Hi everyone. Will look forward to hearing more about your work, you've got a great camera. Bruce Patterson April 19th, 2006, 12:47 PM I'm from Canada but will be filming a wedding in Park City, Utah this June. I'm looking for a reliable shop where I can rent gear from. Can anyone suggest a shop to phone in either Salt Lake City or Park City? Francois Camoin April 19th, 2006, 02:43 PM Try TV Specialists, 801-486-5757. They're good people. Mike Oveson April 19th, 2006, 03:32 PM I'll second Francois' recommendation. TV Specialists has been great to work with. Christopher Witz April 22nd, 2006, 09:03 AM I've been lurking around here for about a year... thought I'd introduce myself. I'm a commercial photographer in Louisville KY, and have shot stills for advertising for about 20 years... from 8X10 film to 22MP digital on hasselblad bodies... in the studio with sets to location. In the past 6 months I've gotten into shooting HD video for some of my clients... mainly for projection at trade shows.... using the same commercial lighting technics I use for stills. I have a dof adapter to give a higher end look to my footage, and can't seem to live without it. I'm in pre-pro on a documentary of artists, and hope to find a buyer when it's complete. Thanks to everyone for all the threads and replies to just about anything on this site! I've absorbed allot! Rob Lohman April 22nd, 2006, 10:43 AM Hi Christopher, welcome aboard H(DV) Info Net, good to have you with us! Joshua Miller April 23rd, 2006, 12:08 PM Hello from California. My name is Josh Miller. I am 30 years old and have wanted to make films since I was a kid. I got a PXL 2000 for Christmas in 1988 and always wanted a REAL camera. I have taught video editing on Avid Media 100 systems in 1999 and I'm just FINALLY diving into Adobe Premiere Pro. I joined in February and I have found this place SUCH a wealth of information already. It's difficult to take it all in at once. I have yet to purchase a camera, but I am strongly considering a Canon XL2. I'll eventually run across the classifieds section here and see if I can pick one up. After that I am going to hopefully upgrade repeatedly for the rest of my life until I am shooting on something that hopefully resembles a real film camera in the digital domain. I have been an actor in the past, working on various projects. From a show on the sci fi channel, Tostitos commercials for the superbowl, and low budget indy films, I have always wanted to be in he director seat to see what my own talents are capeable of. It wasnt until this day and age that making films on a budget was even feasible. Finally technology puts film making in the hands of the public. Im excited about the future. Josh Boyd Ostroff April 23rd, 2006, 03:13 PM Hey Joshua... welcome to DVinfo! Will look forward to reading about your quest for the perfect camera. Rebecca Williams April 24th, 2006, 10:23 AM Hello y'all, I just wanted to introduce myself here. My goals include starting a wedding videography business this summer and to start creating short films with a few of my friends that are great at script writing and acting. The only holdup so far is actually setting aside the time for our little projects... but I guess that this is a common complaint. Currently, I am shooting with a Canon GL2 and XL1s and edit with Avid Xpress DV at home and Xpress Pro at my day job. Well anyways...enough rambling for now. -Becca Rob Lohman April 24th, 2006, 06:45 PM Hi Rebecca, welcome aboard (H)DV Info Net, good to have you with us! Benjamin Boer April 26th, 2006, 11:00 AM Hi everyone, I'm at UCT in South Africa studying film & Media. I'm here to learn from all the masterrs of the industry...and because someone told me G. Lucas was here. :) A group of us at school decided to do a short. There are many things we still need to learn but we are excited and eager to learn from those who went through the fire before us. Rey Lin May 12th, 2006, 08:19 AM Howdy, I like the policy stating that the only stupid question is the one that doesn't get asked. I always say to myself: the dirtiest, ugliest, and most unorganize piece of story board is the white blank page itself. I live in Long Island and work in midtown. Johnny Martinez May 12th, 2006, 09:40 PM Hello everyone I am back had to transfer from Harrah's New Orleans to the Hourseshoe in Tunica. What a shock not only in the city but also in the job. I now have a 3 camera system with a switcher and 2 16 foot screens on each side of the stage and a 25 ft and 16 ft on stage with front and rear projectors. I am loving life now. Just got the system in and we are having some problems getting the equipment to work like it should and getting the colors adjusted. Glad to be back around and if anyone is in the Tunica/ Memphis area give me a email. Johnny Tim Goldman May 14th, 2006, 07:00 PM Been lurking here the past few weeks. I don't have any real equipment as of now, but coem the fall I'm ganan jump in and buy a camera (looks like an xl2 most likely). I do have some experince in vidoe stuff, and I'm a 3-d animator, which is why I'm back at college here getting a art degree in photography (1 useless degree wasn't enough i supose). I'm currently using a Canon XL2, but I'm no pro since it's my first project and time using the camera. I love it. The project I'm working on is a mockumentary about wrestling.
