Wonder if anyone found a place to buy the new hood design with the lens cap built in, seperately as a part.

I switched the hoods between my VX2100 and DSR-250, and it worked, even though the locking screw orientation is different (one horizontal, the other vertical). But the VX-2100 hood is smaller than the DSR-250.

I am sure many people would love to have the new hood for their VX2000, PD150, and DSR-250.

A guy on the DV.com newsgroup gave the part number of the new hood from Sony. Apparently it's like $90. I'd like to get one too, but not for a hundred bucks (with ship). I haven't officially heard from anyone if they WILL interchange.

I have both cameras and the VX-2100 hood seems to fit the VX-2000 perfectly. In comparing the two hoods side by side, I also noticed that the new hood is slightly longer than the VX-2000 hood. This might reduce glare on the lens in some situations. One nice thing is that the set screw that clamps the VX-2100 hood onto the cam is now on the bottom, rather than on the right side. The VX-2000 set screw sometimes slightly interferes with my Sennheiser receiver when it is velcroed to the flat spot at the right front of the camera. The new hood completely eliminates this problem.

Too bad the new hood is so expensive. Otherwise I would get a new hood to put on my VX-2000!

Well, if there is no patent involved, WHO is going to start the company that make these hoods cheap for not just VX2000, but every bayonet and screw-mount hood, for video and photo lenses.

Are some of you tired of just sitting around and staring at a computer screen?

I would like to see someone verify the ~ $90 price I heard. Has anyone called Sony to see?

Alan Christiansen, question for ya. Is the new hood on the VX2100 all hard plastic (like the GL2's) or is it rubbery land more sturdy ike the VX2000's hood?

The 2100 hood outer shell is made of the same rubbery stuff as the 2000. As is the case with the 2000, the 2100 has a plastic shell under the rubbery outer layer. However, the 2100 plastic inner piece holds 2 plastic shutters that rotate closed to protect the lens. There is a little lever on the side of the hood that you flip to open or close this integrated "lens cap". I think it is a pretty slick design.
