I've downloaded the .png letterbox mask at: http://www.indigipix.com/videotips.htm

Video render for NTSC works great....however, if render for web-based playing, and viewed with windows media player, the very top and bottom of image sometimes bleeds though no matter how I adjust the crop....

any thoughts?

Hiyah! When you say "bleeds" through, do actually mean bleed OR do you actually "see" the other image?

Ah yes . . I've just repeated the "bleed". I'm using PAL . . but I do get the video appearing above and below in Windows Media PLayer . . I understand. Have you tried NOT using the PNG and just using the Vegas widescreen format? I've done this too and although I've then sent the signal out to my monitor - a standard 4:3 tv, I do get it to work . . I've just now played this same Vegas widescreen without using the stretch video option, and it appears to work in WMP . . . so no use of the png and let Vegas do it - yeah? Try it out, just to confiem I ;ve got it in the "Ball Park" - yeah?

Grazie...
Don't you get distortion of the original 4:3 video when using Vega's 16 X 9 preset?

Take a look at my 16x9 letterbox calculator (www.visuar.com/letterbox/calc.htm), I've also put up the
most common masks for everyone to download. They seem to
work fine for me.

Everybody seems to be using different calculations to get the
size of the mask. My formula and reasoning behind it are pretty
well explained on the page.

Rob,
I'm in the middle of another project right now, otherwise I would try your mask....

Have you tried yours with rendering out to .wmv? to see if it does fully mask?

I just changed the link to point to my new site since the other
one will be going away soon. Make sure you follow the latest
link.

The calculator is also going to be updated in the coming month
or so with some additional calculations and changes to the
javascript to make it more compatible and less buggy.

I didn't check it out with WMV but did with MPEG and full DV
output. As far as I know they are watertight. Do MAKE SURE
you are importing these masks wtih a SQUARE PIXEL (1.0)
aspect ratio (default on any NLE I've seen). So don't change it
to DV aspect ratio. My calculations already used the pixel aspect
ratio and therefor don't need any correction in the NLE.

Mark: maybe you can just check it out on a little scene in a new
test project? Render it out to WMV and let me know how it goes.

We did use my calculations for the Lady X project (www.ladyxfilms.com) as well.

Bingo Rob...that was it...luckily I had some footage from my other project that I had tried another mask with....your mask worked perfectly....

If I see anyone else asking about this subject on other boards/threads, I'll direct them to your website....
Thanks....
