Hi

I have played .mpg files in MP9 for ages without one glitch. Recently by some stroke of misfortune some of my .mpg files got associated with PowerDVD as the program to open with. I changed this back to MP9 but since then I am no longer able to play back any .mpg files in MP9.

The error message is "Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The file is either corrupt or the Player does not support the format you are trying to play."

I have all the file types checked for playback and have reloaded MP9. These files are obviously not corrupt as they playback in both PowerDVD and Quicktime. Any ideas?

PS: Playback in PowerDVD would not be too much of a problem other than the colours have changed and it is not a pleasure to watch.

how did you change it back so mpeg would play with WMP9?

you should have right clicked on the mpeg file ( now associated with powerDVD) OPEN WITH .. then "choose program " then go thru list of programs and picked windows media player . then checked the box " ALWAYS use this program to play these files "..

Sorry for the delay was out of action.

Yup did what you said...no go. Then uninstalled WMP9 rebooted and reinstalled....no go. I am sure it is remembering a setting that PowerDVD has given it. Uninstalled PowerDVD....no go.

Any other suggestions.

PS: In W2K have also changed the settings in explorer so that .mp3 files play with MP9

you might have to go into the registry and manually remove the links to Power DVD ??

look in HKEY_current _machine - then under software .. if power DVD is made by company with another name it might be under that name

just in case also look under HKEY_classes_root for any trace of power DVD ... and under Hkey current user

BE very careful deleting in registry ...
