Hello all,

Well, I'm investigating buying a softbox for my NRG Varalux Pro. I like the Chimera model

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?BI=155&O=productlist&A=details&Q=&sku=78036&is=REG

My only question is, will it be too big for my GL2? The description at B&H reads:

"These softboxes are designed for on-camera video camcorders of a fairly large size, or for attachment on a film camera."

Any tips or things I should know before I buy?

Thanks!!!

Well, I guess it depends on what you might consider "too big". It will certainly attract some attention, simply because it's not common to see these on small cameras. But, depending on your objectives, I think it will work.

Regarding soft light sources, remember that size matters. That is, the bigger the effective light source, the softer the light will be. The true mechanism behind all soft boxes is to effectively enlarge the light source by using a larger diffusion panel between the light source and the target.

A small soft box like this will soften your light a bit, but it's not physically large enough to create gentle, pillow-soft light.

Good luck and report back when you get the Chimera.
