I am trying to show a customer a demo of some footage I did for them. But the DVD's are playing really jerky and stuttery in his Laptop DVD drive.

I have even tried just putting the mpg file direct on his hard drive and it still plays like crap. I know the file plays fine, I have tested it on multiple machines.

Any idea why his laptop would be having such a problem? It is a Toshiba P4 2.0 GHZ laptop, so it should be able to play MPG no problem.

Any ideas? As this isn't looking very good on me (even though I have no control over his computer)

I see this fairly frequently. Software DVD players are not as reliable as hardware DVD players. Have your client load a different DVD player on his computer. If his laptop has limited ram, video memory, hard drive space, slower processor, or applications are running in the background, it could effect the playback also.

My guess would be that there are background applications
running that are getting in the way (like virus scanners). I've
had a similar problem on my DELL where my CPU was setup
(in the BIOS) to run at different speeds depending on the load
(to save battery). This had some major problems with mpeg
playback. Once I changed that it all ran smooth.

If you want to take a bet bring a movie DVD with you (a pressed
one that you bought at a store) and show that it plays back
stuttery as well (it should, but it could work good, that's a risk!).

It could indeed also be the DVD software used. I've had some
bad experiences with PowerDVD in the past myself for example.
