I've been trying to dub off some copies from vhs via my Tv, but all the instructions I have in the manual on pgs. 88-89 dont seem to work. I get nothing on my camera. I've tried s video and the rca lines, any suggestions?
thanks

Recording an analog source to tape should be no problem as
long as the source is not copyrighted (using a special protection).
The XL1S will notify you of such a source though.

I'm very confused by your post and the lack of detailed information
in it.

1) why is the TV being used?

2) can you describe to the best of your powers how everything is connected (be as detailed as possible)

3) how did you setup the XL1S? (in regards to the big dial and other settings)

4) what does "i get nothing" mean? where do you get nothing?

5) if I remember correctly you should set the VCR in the XL1S to pause first before seeing anything

6) to what are your trying to record? tape or computer?

I too am unable to record from the tV as the book says. I want to record from a VHS tape and my TV or VHS player doesnt have an s video plug, so I tried using the the cable that comes with the camera and followed the directions on Pg 87 and it does not work.
I do not get any vision in the camera at all and it does not have an av in port so I cant use that either. I put the camera in VCR mode and followed the books directions to the tee. What can I do?
Thanks
Dennis

As asked above, please indicate HOW everything is connected
and through what kind of cables. TV's almost NEVER have an
OUTPUT. You need a VCR for that.

Please draw like this how everything is connected:

TV cable -> VCR -> XL1S (composite or SVHS)

Did you set the XL1S in record pause mode with the controls
on the top handle? Otherwise you won't see anything.
