I have WinME with Adobe Premiere6.0 and a DV500 plus board. I would like to upgrade to winxp. Will Premiere and the DV500 still work after the upgrade. Thanks all. I am currently getting the Dell message saying I need to replace the hard drive, though the drive is the second one and only one year old. Too many manual shut downs I guess.

The DV 500 will work under XP, you just need to download the latest drivers (4.5 I think) from pinnacles web site - about 300mb ;(

Premiere 6 should also work but I suggest you upgrade to 6.5 or at least put the .02 patch on.

This is more for others finally upgrading from 95, 98, & ME to 2000 or XP.

Do it...

In the past six months I have seen at least a dozen computers that are running Windows 9X and have 128MB or greater in them. This is a problem as Windows 9X does not deal with RAM sizes greater than 64MB. Windows will report the true amount of RAM in the system but will not actually use it. What a waste.

Once you upgrade to 2000 or XP then the minimum amount of RAM you should have (especally for video work) is 512MB, and the OS will then use it. Also increase your pagefile size to a minimum of 3 times RAM and a maximum of 4096MB. This also helps performance.

IMO upgrading depends on your CPU , ram , motherboard .. you have winME so it could be 4 +years old ??

i have seen some replace win98 with XP and are not happy. XP may not work correct with older hardware/chipsets ..some older machines are stuck back in PIO2,3,4 mode instead of ATA 100 .. XP takes eats up RAM & needs/eats CPU power ....

my old window 98 machine works excellent with 98 .. when i switched it out to win2K it didn't work as good as 98 .. it has 98 back in it ...

i think DELL's web site will look at your computer and tell you if it's a go for a XP upgrade ...
