Hi,

I am having a problem importing a XDCAM HD file in one of our FCPro systems. I have tried to import the same file both ways, either from an external hard drive or from its original XDCAM HD disc. Consistently, at 23% through the import process (hires import, not the proxy data), we receive an "import error" message in the transfer tool. The file successfully imported on two other FCPro and one AVID systems. Here some specs:

- XDCAM HD 25mpbs 1080 60i file, 17GB size (about 1hr. 30 minute long)
- Mac Pro, FCPro 6.0.5
- Transfer Tool version 2.9
- I checked the "import" option in XDCAM Transfer and the target drive has plenty of space left

Is there any setting I am overlooking that would cause this error?

Is the drive you are writing to formatted as FAT32? 23% of a 17Gb file is around 4Gb the point at which a file becomes too big for FAT32.

Good thought Alister, this is quite a posibility. The drive is an off the shelf "My Book" from Western Digital. I'll check this out.

Yep, that one got me when I first got an EX3 too! I believe (I may be wrong!) that the little vertical marks you see in the XDCAM EX Clipbrowser progress/mark in/out bar area (i.e. directly below the video window) indicate the 4GB points - these tiny marks only "appear" there on long clips (> 4GB) of course!

I typically select just under 4GB (using these little marks as a guide) and import that section of the clip to an external drive(s). I then import the next 4GB with a slight overlap to the first bit - just to keep all the edit options open. Sorry if all this is obvious - but it certainly threw me for a few hours about 8 months ago when I first got into the EX3 solid state technology - don't miss tape one bit though!
