Can anyone tell me what to do about this sod? - It started after the last automatic upgrade came down the pipe from MS. Yahoo mail no longer works since this started.
Any advice appreciated -- except that suggesting tossing the computer up high in the air by its own power cord and waiting for its earthward return with a baseball bat. - I can work that one out on my own.

Yep, that Auto Update can be a sod.
Go to:
Control Panel
Click on "Add/ Remove Programs"
Tick "Show Updates"
Sort by: "Date Last used"
Highlight appropriate Update.
Click on "Remove"
If it was an update, that will can it.

Don't forget the magical "System Restore" option. Saved me several times before.

Be very careful with this as power cords cannot be firmly attached. I'd recommend you leaving it on the ground and beating it. But use a sledge, unless you want to ruin the bat.

Never set your editing PC to auto update, that's what most software makers recommend.

You might want to try uninstalling/reinstalling Microsoft's .NET, all 3 or so versions. Doing that has help me a couple times. Sometimes it simply resets the crazy complicated .NET settings to their default values.
