Hello Forum,

I need to make my half hour HDV NTSC video into a SECAM video so that it can play in Madagascar. I was looking in compressor's settings and I only see settings for NTSC to PAL conversions. I was wondering how I compress NTSC to SECAM. Do I augment a PAL compression?

Thank you for your help.

Cheers,
Sharon

Don't bother, there is no way to convert to SECAM in your computer. PAL should work fine in Madagascar.

SECAM is a French broadcasting format that never gained the ability to be edited with for very technical reasons. SECAM broadcasting nations produce their programming in PAL and convert it to SECAM during broadcast. SECAM recording VHS decks were once made but there are no SECAM DVD players. Check with the people in Madagascar, I'm reasonably sure that a PAL DVD will be just the thing they can use.

I concur with William. That has always been MY understanding as well...

The guys are correct; if this is for broadcast than a PAL encoded asset is all you need, the broadcaster will make the conversion to SECAM during broadcast output. If you're making a PAL DVD (which DVDSP4 can easily do) make sure you've set "Region 3" or "All Regions" so that it plays in that area's DVD players.
