I am a MAC FCP editor looking to buy a PC based Edius editing solution for producing same day edits at weddings. What are the basics that I need in terms of software and hardware?

What camera are you using?

SD or HD?

Tape based or flash memory?

I would look at a small suitcase system. I'd get a fast i7 quad core system with at least 6gb ram. Plop in a Firecoder Blu card and you get faster than RT conversion of AVCHD and BluRay. You don't need a HDSpark or Storm, unless for the SDE you planned on playing from the timeline out through HDMI which I wouldn't recommend.
You can do it with a laptop, but I built my own small portable box which can accomidate the Firecoder card.

I'd grab this barebone mini system Newegg.com - Shuttle SX58H7 Intel X58 4 x 240Pin Barebone - Barebone Systems (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16856101082)
Then add in the i7 920 ram and hdd and you're rolling.

It's a bargain too.
