So I have some SD POV cam footage I want to use in a HD timeline. Whats the best way using premiere or AE to upscale it to match the height of the HD frame? Just scale it up? Any better way?

I have Cineform, whats the process there?

Open HD link... go to prefs, chose resize video to the size you want, close prefs, click Convert tab and select either the folder with the files or the select files for convert, click start

So i tried Cineform and it scales the video well, except it eliminates the audio track. I've tried both AVI & MOV output formats and both have no audio, while the original source does. ANy idea why?

The source footage is a bit wierd, its from a client that was using a GoPro POV cam. The GoPro website says the codec used is "MJPEG, 30 fps, saved as .AVI file"

When I try to load the source into AE it crashes the program with no errors. Yet I can play the source in WMP, VLC, etc. When I convert using Cineform I can import into AE, but the audio is missing.

Just tried Video Enhancer and the source footage crashes the program upon import as well.

I'm at a loss here. I've tried opening these source files in about a half dozen programs ranging from editors, encoders, even a program to read the codec and they all crash soon as I select the file. I don't know if they are in MJPEG format or if the client has converted them. Only thing that'll open them is Cineform, but like I said I lose the audio once they are converted.

did you try to open & convert the file with TMPGenc?

tom, see if you can put the original footage through the HD link and just do a standard
Cineform convert, no upscaling or anything else... then see if the audio is in there... if it is then you can bring the footage into Premier and separate the audio and output from Premier the audio only..

then bring in the upscaled footage and the separate audio to the timeline...

Ray, I did a standard convert in HDlink and still lost the audio. Its wierd VLC will play the original file just fine with audio, but won't play the file after I do a HDlink convert. However WMP will play the converted file and Premiere/AE will import it (no audio). When I try to play the converted AVI in VLC it says...

"No suitable decoder module:
VLC does not support the audio or video format "CFHD". Unfortunately there is no way for you to fix this."

I tried TMPGenc and it won't even open the source AVI

Tom, at this time it might be best that you bring the issue of no audio up in the Cineform
forum area and ask David for an assist... I'm sure the Cineform folks should be able to help you out.

I've had a lot of trouble bringing in some mp4 and mjpeg footage to Premiere (CS3) without losing the audio. I've tried a host of different conversion tools, and so far the only way I've found to reliably convert some of those videos and keep the audio is to go to the WMV format and import that to Premiere (where you can then grab the audio file to go with your uprezzed footage from Cineform). I use a program called MP4 to AVI which has a WMV output.

InstantHD is a nice SD to HD software that does an amazing job. It surely is much better than resizing by using the standard NLE features.

Instant HD uses the upscaling engine from Topaz... Topaz has more controls...

Once you guys upres using InstanHD, what's the settings/format/etc that you use for export? Mine looks like poop after exporting.
