Hey! I got a couple of tips. I live in rainy Vancouver so sometimes I have to lug my gear around in the rain. I use one of those clear thick garbage bags for my Lowepro Nova 5 bag, when the rain is heavy. Most of you probably know about this simple trick, however. I have 2 older model Lowpro's---Lowepro's are real good---but many of the new models come with built-in rain jackets---something many of you may not know. Usually the rain here is very light, a mist-like fog. Do I use a baggy when the weather is like this? Naaa. (Here's the other tip.) I bought that all-weather spray stuff from my corner shoe repair shop and spayed it on the outside of my Lowepro. Now when the light rain showers down, the protective film repels it---like magic! :-))

Anyone have any other tips for rain protection?

I use Scotch Water-proofing spray on all my bags and it works a treat. Both my Lowe-pro bags have been through Japanese typhoons, usually when we get the best surf, and didn't leak a bit. My Burton Zoom has been through heavy dumps of spring snow and spent hours sitting on the snow also without any leakage. I generally use 1 can per bag giving it a couple of coats and paying extra attention to the seams.

I use my can of food grade silicone. No oily solvents.

In Vancouver it rains through whole seasons though, that's tough.

You're telling me....

In Winnipeg they used to smear lard or oil on the sand bags, even mink oil. Today the bags used are waterproof. I wished the cam bag makers would take the cue.

Would the same treatment work on T shirts. That would be sad though with no more wet Tees. I guess that's the only upside to such a wet climate.

So which LowePro Video bag do you own?

The older Vidcam 2 and the older Nova 5. I have the Vidcam 2 lined with 1" packaging foam---when she drops, she bounces.
