I would like to find an adapter for the regular Sony np style battery mount, that sandwiches between the battery and cam, and runs a Hirose 4-pin (to power a mixPre).

The one sound devices sells is here (http://www.sounddevices.com/products/xlnphmaster.htm) but she don't mount to the cam. I've found something close here (http://www.aspenelectronics.com/vmount_accessories2003.asp), or here (http://216.245.175.12/AVCat/CTL733/index.cfm?mlc_id=319&SID=11461774&mrc_id=733&ProdID=7428&T3=608) is something I can't quite figure out.

So, I'd like to find the correct part or parts to build it. I ran across an adapter that fits on the np and then u can mount np or v-mount but I can't find it. Any help would be appreciated thanks.

I'd just get myself another NP battery box. The one spare I have has rear contacts so it can be stacked. Or just get a double-slot NP holder and use a hollowed out NP battery as the contact setup for your power outlet.

Most cameras that take these batteries have an outlet for an on-camera light and sometimes a wireless receiver as well. Can you adapt one of those if your camera has them?

Richard, That rig will be so heavy you'll need training wheels on it.

For hand held, why don't you stay with the onboard AA cells and plug an NP2 into it when you tripod mount it.

I'm going to use a chest harness for the mix pre and tether the camera to a mic cable and an RCA line out.

The price we pay for being audio anal ;-)

Is this the same as the first link? Like, I could hollow out a box and solder but I need a bit of detailed instructions.

Now I'm up in Canada here and the only electronics store is not so good, and I'm not good electronics, but I'm handy and can solder...

Bryan, what I'm thinking about is a piece of plastic, to sandwich between cam and battery, with a hirose wire coming out the bot. Not much weight and a nice solution.

Forget what I suggested as it will not work. Wrong battery style for what you want. Had my mind set on NP-1B batteries, the large chocolate bar NiCads.

I'm assuming the pre requires more than 3 volts? Couldn't pull it from the mini-jack?

Mini-jack? mmm... This is a good suggestion but phantom powering + preamping low 'sensitivity' mikes, and headphone preamp=lots of juice. Actually, not too much, but I think you want your mixer that is powering your complete audio sytem a little more robust. On my modified cam one mini is used for loopback monitoring, the other has a stop pin in it.

I guess I wouldn't want to juice from the internal cam, who knows if u would fry or blow a fuse or something.

The hirose 4pin power in to the mixPre is about 3" from the battery block.

The Mix Pre will take any DC from 5-18 volts. How about a radio control battery pack from Radio Shack.
