Hi, I am using premier 6 have 1.5ghz athelon, 1gb ram, 2-80gb raid for video a 30 and a 120gb for programs. It works ok usually although I just installed the 120 and tried to show an 8 min music slide show and all it will do is the first couple of seconds and stop. If I move down the time line and try again it does the same there. The pictures on the time line show on the timeline but not in the monitor. I have run disk doctor, win doctor, speed disk on all drives and it is rendered. What do you think?........ thanks TL

What is your operating system? Which version of Premiere 6
are you running EXACTLY? Some earlier versions of 6 had some
problems if I remember correctly. I'm not sure whether the update
to 6.5 is a free one.

Do you know if DMA is enabled for your drives? Do you have
your camera hooked to your computer through firewire when
you play back? This can generate preview slowdowns on your
computer!

What is speed disk?

Hi Rob, thanks for replying. All I had to do is change the profiles and render then change them back and render again. I know it sounds like monkey motion but that kind of stuff I have become accustomed to using premier and windows. And speed disk is a defragmenter used by win xp. Thanks again for the reply, I really appreciate the help. TL

Well, I don't have such problems with my Vegas installation on
WinXP, but hey.

No, speed disk is not a defragmenter used by WinXP. WinXP
comes with a lite version of Diskkeeper for defragmentation
(but it never says so).

Or are you using another program that you installed yourself that
is called speed disk?

Yes, you are right I use norton and the speed disk is theirs. Hey while your here, I'm trying to upgrade to matrox rtx 100 and premier pro on win xp. As I have used premier, photoshop, and have adobies dvd software. I am wanting to up to photoshop cs and premier pro and would like to use after effects. Do you think I should try Vegas? What a question, I know. Anyway what are your thoughts. Is Vegas far superior or is Vegas and xp a glitch free merg? Also what about avid express. Do you know anything about that? I sure appreciate the imput. Thanks again TL

I'm very fond of Vegas, that's no secret. It's basically because it
adapts very good to how I work (in my head) and want things to
do.

Why not simply try out demos for both products? You can download
them of the Sony (http://mediasoftware.sonypictures.com) and Avid (www.avid.com) sites.
