A simple, maybe dumb question. I just dropped by to read a thread I got an email on and noticed that I was listed at the top of the main page. I noticed this before, even though I hadn't visited in a while. If I don't actually "log out", am I always listed as present on the site? If so I've been here for months and didn't even know it. I must have learned a lot in my absence/presence.

You are shown as "present" while your browser has a DVInfo page opened. Otherwise you're "absent".

Thanks Ken. Figuring it out would have been like trying to see if the light stays on when you close the refrigerator door <g>.

So if I take the cookies out of my fridge the light will go off?

Put your video camera inside to find out.

Yes, and then you'll have to log-in next time you want to post---which can be a real headache if you forget your password. What I do know is just use my middle name for all my passwords. This way I will never forget my passwords unless I get dumbstruck with amnesia---which can never happan unless I get hit by lightning for the 2nd time. What do you think?

With typical VBulletin code you are listed as present whenever you click any page in the forums. You can quit your browser, go to another site, etc, but you will STILL be listed as present until you have not clicked anything for 15 minutes. Then your name goes away. And yes, you can leave DVInfo open for 6 years and your name will not be present after 15 minutes if you haven't navigated through some forums. So the "Who's Online" is not always accurate.

This is all assuming you aren't logging out... that is a pain. That's why the site is cookied!
