If you cannot focus using the very sharp viewfinder on a DVCPro camera, not much out there in terms of focusing aids will be any better. With one or two exceptions:

1. An external and large monitor will be easier to focus.

2. A waveform monitor can be used to indicate best focus as the maximum luminance difference between black and white objects is achieved when the camera is focused.

Have you turned the peaking circuits on the pro camera's viewfinder up until you get the white outline when the camera is focused? That's about as good as it gets.

The new dvx100a has a "peaking" function that greatly enhances your focusing abilities. You can turn it on or off at with the push of a button and it can be used on both viewfinder and the LCD. One of the best new features from the upgrade of the dvx100 to the 100a.
