What is a reasonable price for a used VX2000 in good/excellent condition? Given that the new VX2100 is out, shouldn't the price of the vx2000's come down?

OK, a lot depends on where you live and where the VX2000's lived. By the sea side? I'd forget it.

Look at what a brand new, fully guaranteed VX2100 will set you back, and generally the (unknown) VX2k should sell for no more than half that. You won't be paying the tax that the original owner paid, you'll be buying (maybe) a lot of head wear, a lot of lacing / unlacing, a lot of (~shudder~) front element cleaning on his neck-tie.

But you could come across the genuine bargain. If you know the seller so much the better. If you have a *really* good look at the camera in bright light, do check the heads of the screws, the front element, the state of the tape deck. If you can get some sort of warrenty so much the better, because it's going to take you some time to check out all the facilities.

Remember this. There's usually a pretty good reason for a camera being sold. You need to find that reason.

I bought my VX2000 last fall, before the 2100 came out. I found it on eBay, and the final price was $1750.

The camera was in near-perfect shape, and was used by a UCBerkeley student for some classes.

Just checked eBay, and there was one camera on there for close to $2k. Just keep your eyes open.

I've found that the VX2000 retains a lot of resale value (good for the seller) and that you're better off buying new.

I sold both my VX2000 and PDX10 for about $100 less than I paid for them.

you sold them? Why Tommy? I usually buy a camera and have it die on me after many years, or have it in the cupboard as a memory of all the good times we had together.

I rarely keep anything over a year except for the wife, kids, and the cat. :)

I still keep a VX2000 at work as I consider it a staple in my diet.

I always buy new- I need the reliability for my paid gigs. I can't count on purchasing the camera from someone who is as anal with their equipment as myself.
