I bought a never-opened HM-DH30000U, which was recently replaced by the 40k unit, at Sears in Boynton Beach, Florida (Palm Beach County) for $360. It was selling for $399, but they gave me 10% or so off. Nice! Try Sears or any other department store that has electronics.

Circuit City FINALLY dropped the price from $599...to $549. You have to order the deck, but they usually have one on display.

Best Buy doesn't seem to stock any more units, but they're the only ones who sell D-VHS tapes. They are the 300s, and are Maxells, going for $20 a two pack. http://www.taperesources.com/ sells them for $7 a pop, but you gotta buy 10 at a time.

Do a google search for more deals, but the best ones are re-furbs.

Thanks Heath.

Also if anyone is interested in the newer model (HM-DH40000u), eCOST.com has it for $469.99.

That's cheaper than the older 30K model and the lowest price for the new unit I've seen anywhere!

Whats the differnce between the 40000 and the 30000? Is there a significant reason to spend the extra money on the 40000?

Reliability, 2nd gen product, and if you're interested in watching pre-recorded D-Theater HD movies, the latest deck features full-res DTS output.

I think the 40k looks better as well....:)

If you look at the pricing that Heath mentioned, the newer one is actually cheaper. But, you can get a refurbished 30k online for like $270 if they're available.

I got lucky with the 30000 model for $360. Sears wanted it gone.

I also hear the 40000 has special encryption passwords to keep things secret!

Heath,

They have the 40k on the pro side called the SR-VD400US that has the password encryption. The consumer model doesn't have this.

They have the refurbished 30k at Ecost for $279 if anyone is interested. Link (http://www.ecost.com/ecost/ecsplash/shop/detail.asp?dpno=285107)
