View Full Version : Best place to buy batteries? Anyone bought from Ebay?
Christopher C. Murphy May 20th, 2004, 04:23 PM Hi all,
I own a JVC-HD10u camera that uses the "BN-V428U" battery. The highest battery time I could find is 4 hours and cost roughly $100 on B&H and other pro sites.
On Ebay I found lots of batteries that claim to be the exact same "BN-V428U" and even go up to 7 hours of time! They are WAY less money too.
Here is a link:

Now, this seems to be one of those "to good to be true" things. Anyone buy from Ebay? One of these type of batteries that claim more time then the manufacturers?
Any information would help!

Jean-Philippe Archibald May 20th, 2004, 04:31 PM I don't know anything about the JVC, but I bought 4 BP-945 equivalent for my XL1 on eBay for about 25$ each. They works like a charm. I don't know if they will last for years, but I own them for 6 month (maybe 20 or 30 charging cycles) and they last longer than the genuine BP-945.
Christopher C. Murphy May 20th, 2004, 04:50 PM Ok, I'm sold...thanks for replying!
Anyone else care to share? If I get a lot of replies in the positive I'll be ordering like 3-4 batteries!

Jean-Philippe Archibald May 20th, 2004, 05:13 PM At this price, it is not a big risk anyway.
Rob Lohman May 21st, 2004, 06:48 AM I would only buy new stuff, not second hand since you don't know
how well the batteries will be in such cases.
Allan Rejoso May 25th, 2004, 08:33 PM For a wide range of equivalent batteries:
sabahoceanic.com
The cells are made in Japan (well that's what they claim), but batteries are assembled in Malaysia, China or somewhere else (could be in Timbuktu) :-))
Jean-Philippe Archibald May 25th, 2004, 09:10 PM Rob, I rarely saw used batteries on eBay. Generally, they are fresh new ones.
Ray Echevers May 28th, 2004, 01:01 PM I just bought a Sony Battery (NEW GENUINE SONY NP-F960 BATTERY FACTORY SEALED) for $47.99 plus $9.99 for shipping off Ebay. Should be here by early next week, i'll let yall know, but seems like a great deal! Usually they go for $100 and up.
I also bought a CTA (equivelant of the above battery) battery off B&H for $59.99 plus shipping, works great so far.
Christopher C. Murphy May 28th, 2004, 02:14 PM Ok, here is my story...bad purchase on Ebay.
Here was my transaction, so you can see the Seller.

I got the battery, but it was the wrong one. It cost $8.00 for the first shipped battery and I just had to fork over $6.00 more to get the WRONG battery back to the Seller. Sooo..I'm now in the hole on this purchase. If the guy screws up again...well, I'm way in the hole and will leave bad feedback.
It's my assessment that buying on Ebay can be a real pain in the ass.

Ray Echevers May 28th, 2004, 09:02 PM That's ebay for ya, hopefully you'll get the right one this time. I also hope i'll get mine and it be the right one soon.
Christopher Lefchik June 1st, 2004, 01:28 PM I purchased four new, third-party (not made by JVC) batteries for my JVC camcorder off of E-bay. They came fine, and so far have worked without problems.
Douglas Johnson June 2nd, 2004, 03:29 PM I have had great success getting my batteries from eBatts.com
No shipping charges, quick delivery, and (so far) good batteries.
I'm not sure they will have the one you are looking for, but worth a look.
Good luck,
Douglas
Patrick Falls June 4th, 2004, 06:31 AM i am also interested in getting a battery for my xl1. my camera came with three used 945's that last like 20min a peice. i've read that most batteries don't last as long as they advertise.
i have a link below for some xl1 batteries off of ebay that bosts 8 hours. has anyone else found such a battery?
everyone who purchased batteries off of ebay, can you post a link to the auction so i can buy from them since they are known to not be a scam?
the link below is to the auction i was looking at for the 8 hour battery

Christopher C. Murphy June 4th, 2004, 06:46 AM Check out my posts...be careful. I am still waiting for my battery after all this time...had to send back the first one because it was "mislabeled". I'm thinking I'll get the same battery back from this guy and it'll have a different label on it....we'll see.
It cost me more for this battery than I thought.

Ed Smith June 4th, 2004, 07:39 AM ...And thats why you buy from our hand picked DV info.net sponsors :)

They also keep this board running. So buying from them, you're helping keep this board alive.
Patrick Falls June 4th, 2004, 08:22 AM i have a brand new battery never used, well i did open it and charge it. i had the jvc gr-dv3000. i got the camera from sam's club, but only had it for two weeks, i brought it back when i purchased my XL1. i ordered the battery straight from jvc for $125.00 after taxes. i got it the very next day. anyways. i have posted on here awhile backing asking if anyone wanted to buy it. i can sell it to you for $40.00 and you pay shipping, i can ship it however you want it shipped. if you add that with your losses you should still come out cheaper than buying from the store.
i'll mail it out to you and you can pay me when you get it and check it out. it's the 2800mah 7.2v BN-V428U. the package says up to 4.5 hours recording time. i haven't checked it out because i haven't tried it, i just charged it on the charger.
i have the original battery case, packing box, shipping slip and return policy. my two year old son was last seen playing with the little plastic peice that protects the bottom of the battery. i have no idea where that is.
i wish i would have read your post earlier. don't know how i missed it.
