i have an xl1 camera and i have been waiting for someone to come up with a good working model, but i haven't any luck. everyone else seems to be concentrating on certain cameras as a group. what are the name and models of the camera's that are having the most success with these homemade adapters?

i'm thinking about selling my xl1 and investing in something else that may be easier to use an adapter with, just so i can get in the game here.

Hi Patrick,
The easiest answer to this question is that the best camcorders to use with this adapter are those with permanent lenses and a great macro ability. Honestly, any camcorder will work. However, if you are currently using an XL1, 3-CCD is probably a requirement. Many have used the Canon GL1/GL2 (http://ideaspora.net/aldu35/) with great success. Others are taking advantage of the Panasonic DVX100A's superior macro ability. Dino Reyes even created a 35mm adapter (http://www.dinoreyes.com/images/cam2.jpg) for his XL1 (http://www.dinoreyes.com/images/cam1.jpg) that produces very nice video.

Cost and quality are both big factors in this design. If your main concern is quality, most will agree that the DVX100A is the way to go. If cost is your main concern, the GL2 or DVX100 (not the A) are wise choices. All three will make for excellent adapters.
