MiniDV is arounnd 7 years old and at the time it came out if you had to predict what might replace it you could look at emerging technologies such as HDTV.

Given that what might replace HDV in 8 years, im not talking HDVCAM or HDVPro.

Any ideas?

My guess is Blu-Ray disc technology as an aquisition format. Already there is a UHDV specification for ultra-high definition video, but the numbers escape me at the moment.

Real time solid state capture; 3-D Matrix-like hologramme; 20.1 total immersion sound/audio . . and Smell-O-Rama . ..

Seriously? I think chip technology will have advanced so much that at present our imaginations AREN'T as advanced as that which will present itself to us for us to reflect on WHAT could be possible. Meaning, technologies will have advanced so much by then that it will provide new areas of reality for us to explore, previoulsy not thought about AND had not been on our RADAR.

Most likely it will be some affordable prosumer HD options for those "starting" out in this exciting industry . . by then I would have taken up basket weaving . ..

. . NOW: I'd settle for a Black and White viewfinder on my Canon XM2 . . . and the Zoom to work properly - hah!
