i am meking a drag racing video, and was not getting far enough down the track. i bought a 1.7 telephoto 58 mm lens for my pd 170 and when i used it and was not zoomed in all the way i got really bad vignyetting. does any one know how to avoid this. Which lens to buy. would a 62 mm be better ? please anyone who knows!

Lynn, read my review of the Sony VCL-HG1758 telextender lens on this forum. It may give you a few tips on reducing the vignetting malady. It may be, that if you need to pull back too far on the zoom to avoid vignetting with this extender, you may have to do without it.
Or, add a Canon GL2 with a 20X basic lens to your collection.

Lynn, I should have mentioned that I had just the same idea, about getting a larger 62mm telextender to hopefully reduce vignetting. That is the Raynox DCR-2020Pro to which I referred in my review. No soap! It's wider, but also much longer and vignettes in all but the top 15% of the zoom range. Narrowness and length are the two things that contribute to vignetting with a telextender. The 2020 is wide, but its length is what restricts its usefulness. It's suited to be only a specialty lens for extra-longrange shots, on this type of camcorder.

Perhaps you can find a shooting position halfway down the track and not need so much zoom power.
