After about a year of working with my GL2 and using it as my primary deck as well, i'm getting to the point where i want to invest in a seperate deck as to not wear down my cam.

Being that I don't know very much about decks, i was wondering what are the big differences between the JVC HR-DVS3U and something more professional such as the JVC BR-DV600UA (just an example)?

I'm not a scroge about money, but i am a student so if i can get away with buying the HR-DVS3U and having comprable quality i would prefer it.

I have been wondering about the same thing. I am also a student who is concerned about putting wear on my camera heads by using it as my capture deck and found this might be a good substitute. I also have the same question as kyle as to the quality of this deck as compared to varius professional models so if there is anyone out there who can help us please do.
