On the PD150 and PD170 hours meter what do the terms "operation", "drum run", "tape run", and "threading" mean?

Thanks,
Chris

The head drum rotates at 9000rpm, every minute, so the number of hours here should tell you something. But the head may be spinning (in pause, say) and the tape won't be moving - hence tape run times being a seperate figure.

Threading is just that - how many tapes have you loaded and unloaded into the mechanism. This is a very wearing process. Operation foxes me - I guess it could be on/offs at the rear switch or even cassette door openings/closings.

Operations is the number of hours the camera is turned on.

So it is, thanks Mike. As soon as I'd posted I went to check my DSR-11 instructions and there it was. Hate looking at that hours meter, don't you? You can see its life ticking away.

Yes I do. But if your 11 is like my 20, it will spin for more than 1000 hours without needing a bit of attention.

Sony once said that these decks would do around 1500 to 2500 hours on the heads. Going to be interesting to see.

If the hour meter reads:

Operation
13X10H
Drum run
4X10H
Tape run
2X10H
Threading
15X10

I am trying to figure this out. Does this mean the power was on for 130 hours. The camera was in record or pause mode for 40 hours. The camera actually recorded footage for 20 hours. Tapes were loaded 150 times.

Someone please correct me if I am wrong or let me know if I am correct.

Thanks,

Chris
