Hallo!
I was wondering if somebody could maybe help me with a question: There are two HDV standards one uses the MPEG PES and the other the TS stream type.
My question now is, if a MPEG PES stream does not have to be multiplexed in either a programm or transport stream, since this is what I read in all books?
Or are the single PES streams worked on seperatly?
I would be very thankful for an answer!
Bye

P.S.: iLink TS - is this a special variation for iLink ?

Thanks!

iLink is a firewire connection.

Well, I know that iLink and Fire Wire are the same thing. I am simply confused because TS ist always pointed out in connection with the HDV specs.
Thank you though!

Firewire (1394) is only data transmission - there are 1394 hard drives - has nothing to do with video or audio.

A program Stream (PS) - as it relates to MPG - reshuffles the data to allow for SOME error identification and correction.

A transport stream (TS) adds a bit of data for error correction, making the data more robust, presumably for the arduous journey through a diverse data jungle.

I don't really know much of the specifics, but I do remember a tidbit of information concerning data on CDs. Before going on the CD, the data stream is subjected to a process called 8 to 14 modulation. The final stream can not have fewer than 3 nor more than 11 ones OR zeros in a row. This keeps the stream active. If a decorder finds a stream of ones or zeros outside this fairly tight parameter, it knows an error has occurred. As a result error correction and error masking techniques, the CD could play flawlessly through a 1/8" hole in the disk. I seem to recall that was one of the design parameters.

After using VLC to convert a TS to a PS, the files are always a little smaller.

Well I got news and found out, that there actually is a PES stream- not multiplexed- on tape when recording in 1080i. The steam will be transferred into a TS before sending over Fire Wire!
How this is done and exactly where in the signal processing is a secret of the HDV developers-so...
No more information to be found! Bye!
