We're gearing up to start filming the finale for the Lady X series, and I'm looking at this "dually" stabilizer and wondering how it compares to other stabilizers. Does anyone have any experience with this? I would be using it with my Panny DVX100. We'd like to build our own but real gimbals are hard to come by here in Taiwan for some reason.

I was wondering how the thing is balanced as opposed to a glidecam system; it seems the dual balancing points would make it more difficult to control. Is this right? Am I stating the obvious? Please forgive my ignorance on this matter, I just want to know as glidecam is not represented out here, nor are any other stabilization systems short of full-on steadicams for cameras far heavier than mine and way out of my price range.

The 2nd gimbal defeats the whole purpose of a stabilizer...

Now, can anyone tell me how I can get something like a glidecam that works as well but only costs about $100? If you built your own, where did you get the gimbals?

We found a wheel on a rotating plate, probably from some cart somewhere, and are fashioning a glidecam around it, possibly with a revolving handle. Hopefully it should work without a "real" gimbal.

Hey, balancing is a pain, let me just put another handle on it. Then I'd watch the test footage and "D'oh"!

It's like when I was 12 and built a morris code key. The 2 D-cell batteries just weren't strong enough to power the little elector-magnet. So I figured more power is better right and yanked a power cord out of a lamp and juiced it up with 110vac.
Still didn't work, but boy did I learn a lot about electricity that day.
