I've gotten lots of good tips and help on this board since I started budgeting for my movie. We're nearly finished with the picture editing and we have foley and mix-down studio sessions scheduled for the end of August, so we're nearly finished. It was an interesting trailer. I really liked the running shot style,
very nice. There where some other great shots, but also a couple
that looked video-ish that would benefit from some post
production. Cutting etc. was nice.

Wish it told a little more of the story though. Didn't quite hook me.

I gotta agree, I wasn't really hooked either. It felt a lot more like a teaser than a trailer, if that makes sense. It didn't have that broad of a scope, and just focused on the one idea of him having the same dream. Trailers generally have more of a variance and tell a bigger story. Basically a miniature movie of sorts. Hope that helps.

We decided to hold our cards close with the storyline because the flick is only about 30 minutes long and we don't want to totally spill the beans in the trailer.

It's funny both I and my co-director have HDTV sets at home, and when we show the trailer to people in full resolution at 16:9 they are way more impressed in general, even on an ideas level. I wonder what that's about?

The running sequence in the beginning was awsome, make the rest of the movie look more like that and it will look great! I realize an entire movie with that effect would be distracting but I suppose you could use some of the colorfilters e.t.c. What did you do to that sequence?

Very cool trailer, lot of Donnie Darko type stuff going on. The running shot was nice I really liked it also, can't wait to see the final product.

We cut the flick in FCP. The dream sequence is kind of the centerpiece of the movie, so we wanted to give it a lot of draw by making it awesome to look at. We developed the effect you see there for that purpose. I don't know how to code effects, but maybe someone here does and would like to write one that replicates what we did. Here's what it involved:

The run sequence started with a simple shot of our actor running down the street which we slowed to 25% speed. We then duplicated the video track and offset it forward in the timeline by 5 frames and set its composite mode to 'multiply.' We then duplicated the video track again, offsetting it this time by 10 frames and setting its composite mode to 'Hard Light.'
