Hi all. I have Vegas which usually suffices for anything involving text for the little work I do. But recently I've had a couple of small jobs (That actually paid me some money) that required opening titles and text overlays, lower thirds etc but have not found Vegas to be suffcient in making the text look stunning.

Now Vegas 5 came with Boris Keyframer but that is a piece of crap from what I've used of it. Slow, ugly, deletes my text at will and crashes frequently.

So I was wondering what people here use? I'd like both nice looking text and effects for flyones, dancing letters and that stuff. A program that allows me to control the path precisely.

Would I have to now start looking into real compositing software like after effects or are there custom packages that do really nice jobs?

A good solution is Cool3d, relatively cheap as well, been using versions since version 2, now up to Cool3d Studio, think theres a trial download on the ULEAD site.

Take a look at BluffTitler as well - you can find it at:

It will allow you to add multiple layers of text, plasma, particles,video etc and it won't break the bank!

You can download a 30 day fully functionnal demo. A really capable program and you can install it as a pluggin to Vegas.

Hey Aaron,

Have u considered using Adobe after effx? It can deliver stunning broadcast quality visuals and Opening titles... and is realitively easy to use. That is if u are familiar with Adobe photoshop. After finishing the project, render and save as a movie(avi) file which is compatible with most editing suties.I dunno how intensive u want ur opening titles.... Just make sure u have enuf ram to handle the rendering.

PS: when doing text in AE, import from photoshop. Dun use AE's text tool.

I use Photoshop straight up and just import my psd's into Premiere Pro, then I have the ability to animate the individual layers in premiere... I think it's awesome...
