I just wanted to get users thoughts of DV mode on this camera, Especially the 16x9 mode that runs in Manual Mode.

This looks to me to be using the same pixels as the SD Widescreen.

How does this compare to let's say a GL2 in widescreen.

I honestly didn't know about the 16x9 in DV mode; are you sure it isn't just letterbox dropped up and down to look like it, like you can do in the DVX100A?

I've made all of my money so far, since I rarely use the camera due to my schedule, in the DV mode. It's like the old ads for the DVX100 - make money, cineswitch, make a movie. I would make money in DV mode, then switch to HD mode to make a movie, etc.

Note to EVERYONE: if you're going to shoot in SD mode, forget it. It captures the signal like HD, so go all the way. What a nightmare editing and then syncing some SD stuff I did last May...

I believe that the resolution in DV mode is the same as in SD, so 16x9 is the big loss. However, if you add an anamorphic you can compensate for that.

Here are some specs from JVC website.

840,000 pixels in HD mode

460,000 in SD mode

340,000 in DV mode

My guess is the SD / DV Widescreen uses the same pixels.

The Canon Optura Xi is a 2.2 Megapixel CCD with
1,230,000 effective for video.

The canon optura seems to be doing alot of oversampling.
