That's a very nice review considering it's not released yet. That girl Robin writes very nicely, technically and is actually kind of funny! She doesn't seem to want to offend anyone by saying the FX1 is so good. She actually says over and over how great it seems compared to the other prosumer cameras.

I really, really can't wait to get this thing. After reading her review it seems like all the planets have aligned with this new Sony HDV camera. The only thing I'm bummed about is the audio....no independent channel adjustments, and no XLR on-board. Who's going to spend the extra money for the "Pro" version if it only has slightly better audio? I mean, we can buy stuff to make this work ok. Either that or seperate audio completely to external? The "run and gun" thing is important to me, so I might just use a mic into this thing and deal with the audio problems. If I'm shooting a "film" with it...I'll record to Mini-disc or DAT or a harddrive.

Oh yeah, does it have timecode??????

Anyone care to comment?

Yeah, I agree, the planets have aligned. It's as if Sony had some crystal ball and knew what everybody was going to complain about with the XL-2 and addressed everything in this camera. Real manual control rather than psudo, on-camera rather than in-menu adjustment, iris dial rather than toggle, cool LCD for focus rather than $1500 extra...and I haven't even gotten to HDV yet.

You bring up a good question about timecode. SMPTE or not? And with the audio, is that mic input line-level or not? How do we correct the above if not. Or do we wait for the Pro version?

#%&! it, I'm getting on the wait list, my BetaSP-400 ain't getting any younger.
