I have been following all the talk about this new camera coming out. I am working on a new feature film project but probably won't shoot until next summer so I am researching the XL2, DVX100 and this new camera.

Anyways, my question is: is HDV going to be compatible with my dv editing system? Matrox RT2000, Premiere 6.5.

Or will I need a better, faster system in order to edit the hypothetical better, faster signal?

I guess I am just trying to figure out that assuming the pro version of this camera is significantly better than the 24p dv cameras, what are my additional costs/prohibitions/problems going to be?

Matrox will have an HDV editing solution out soon (if it isn't already), but Cineform (www.cineform.com) has something now, so check it out!

HDV is in an mpeg2-Transport Stream, and it can't be cut like conventional DV.

every equipment (usually considered as high end) using its own hardware codec (like the matrox) has the problem that they are build for DV while HDV is Mpeg2. so you can probably use de fierewire port to transfert HDV stream, as would any 30$ card, but do not expect anything else.

You can transport via firewire with software capable of capturing HDV (sorry, no timecode, no batch capture), or even through the AJA HD card.
