Hey Everyone!
I have a Canon GL2 and I'm very familiar with the Mini DV format. My question is what are the different formats of cameras and what do they all mean.
For example, T.V. News cameramen, what type of camera format do they normally use? I've heard of BETA, DVCam, DVCPro, ENG what do all these mean? I know that the quality of a Mini DV Cam wont outbeat the quality of a newscamera, do you agree?

I heard of ENG is that Electronic News Gathering, is that just a fancy term for a cameraman who gathers news with his electric camera? Or is that a format of a camera.

Please help me I've searched and cannot find anything on this.

Kevin: I've moved your post to a general forum since it has nothing
to do with the GL2.

- DVCAM en DVCPRO are comparible to your miniDV
- BETA is available in formats like BETASP and DIGIBETA (these two are mainly used in the TV/news/ENG world)

ENG is basically what you describe. It's a term to indicate news
gathering. I'll let others fill in the blanks that I left.
