Am I correct when I say that the DVX-100A has more pixels in 4:3 mode than the XL-2? But when it goes to it's 16:9 mode it then has more pixels? For some reason I thought I read somewhere that the XL-2 had more pixels all the time, or atleast in 4:3 mode it still had a sharper image, or something to that effect. Can someone correct me please.

Thanks.

The DVX has more photosites than the xl2 in 4:3 mode, but the pixel count is defined by the DV format...and thus is the same. In several tests, the image detail between both cameras appeared about the same, with the edge going to the xl2.

In 16:9 the xl2 offers significantly more photosites, and when compared to the in-camera 16:9 mode on the DVX, produces noticeably more detail.

You can see a test I posted here:

See the pixel-count table in my article, "Canon XL2 CCD Block Overview (http://www.dvinfo.net/canonxl2/articles/article06.php)."
