I want to know what hardware and software do i need to capture the video from MicroMV camcorder(IP55) to Computer. and is it necessary to buy only sony firewire card and cable to do so.

The specification of IP55 about iEEE is:

MPEG i-Link MICROMV Only (Not Compatible with Standard iEEE-1394)

What does that mean. and also please tell me the exact specifications of the hardware required to capture

http://www.simplydv.co.uk/Reviews/sony_dcr_ip55html.htmlMamy people who have bought IP-series camcorders have done so with the expectation that their footage can be captured into a computer via the built-in FireWire utility and edited in the native MPEG2 format prior to burning to DVD or laying back into the camcorder. To this end, Sony has for some time been bundling a software package called Movie Shaker 3.1 (2002). To date this has been the only editing application capable of handling the MPEG2 streams coming off tape. In August 2002 Pinnacle Systems released the update to its hugely successful Studio 7 editing package - Studio 8 - which was promised to facilitate capture of MICROMV footage from an IP-series camcorder and allow editing of same. However, due to problems with the development of this part of the software (undertaken in partnership with Sony) many users have found that Studio 8 doesn't enable capture and editing of their footage as they expected. During September (2002) a patch was released to enable this - though in our experience there have been continuing problems. We haven't so far been able to capture or edit any MICROMV footage with Studio 8, despite having early access to the appropriate resources

Firewire is general, so it doesn't matter what you get as long as
it is firewire/IEEE1394/i.link. However, it sounds like (from the
quote above) that it might not work. Why not just get a demo
from Ulead's version 9 and see if it works. However, it is old
technology (basically, so I wouldn't get my hopes up.

I can't really help you futher since I do not own or ever had this
camera. Do some searching on Google (www.google.com) or Google Groups (http://groups.google.com).

Otherwise you will need to work with the original program from
Sony it seems (if I read the quote correctly).
