Which adaptor do I need to buy so I can power the Sony EX1/X3 from the Pilot's battery?

Dave Gish September 4th, 2009, 09:21 PM I made a custom cable. I chopped the special Sony power connector off of this cable: Vortex Media: VIDEO & PHOTO Tools and Training (http://www.vortexmedia.com/DC1.html) You can see the resulting custom cable here: http://www.dvinfo.net/forum/attachments/stabilizers-steadicam-etc/11048d1235763265-steadicam-vs-glidecam-ex1-3-ex3_3.jpg Buba Kastorski September 13th, 2009, 08:48 PM that's the one I used New AC Power Adapter Charger for Sony PCGA-AC19V7+Cord on eBay.ca (item 390092894621 end time 14-Sep-09 13:27:29 EDT) (http://cgi.ebay.ca/New-AC-Power-Adapter-Charger-for-Sony-PCGA-AC19V7-Cord_W0QQitemZ390092894621QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item5ad359319d&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14) Dave Gish September 14th, 2009, 03:33 AM that's the one I used New AC Power Adapter Charger for Sony PCGA-AC19V7+Cord on eBay.ca (item 390092894621 end time 14-Sep-09 13:27:29 EDT) (http://cgi.ebay.ca/New-AC-Power-Adapter-Charger-for-Sony-PCGA-AC19V7-Cord_W0QQitemZ390092894621QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item5ad359319d&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14) This will work for the EX1. For the EX3, the power connector is on right side of the camera, so a right-angle version of the yellow power connector is essential, otherwise it will stick out and tend to hit your left cheek. For the EX1, the power connector comes out the back. A straight connector like Buba shows on ebay will work, but it does stick out the back a little more than a right-angle connector, which could make doing "the switch" a little more difficult, but maybe this is a nit. I just generally like right-angle connectors for Steadicam, since they hug the camera nice and tight. Hopefully, Tiffen will get around to making custom power and video cables for flying the EX1 on the Pilot. This seems to be a popular combination, and nobody else seems to make these cables. Nick Tsamandanis October 14th, 2009, 11:43 PM Dave how do you power your video transmitter with this set up? Dave Gish October 15th, 2009, 03:47 AM Dave how do you power your video transmitter with this set up? The 1 time that I flew an EX3, I used a small 2.1mm Y-cable that I made. When flying the EX1, I just used the battery. My camera is an HVX-200, so I have to use the battery. Paul Kellett December 13th, 2009, 06:29 AM Hi, i've just got myself a pilot, it came with a lead to power the camera from the top stage, 2.1mm on one end which plugs into the stage and bare wires on the other end ready for connecting to a plug, which i've got for connecting to my EX1, however the sony plug and EX1 socket is not a standard 2.1mm plug (trust sony), there's a little pin inside which i presume is the positive. Is this correct ? Centre pin is positive ? Sony haven't reversed the polarity ? I just want to make sure before i make my power lead. Cheers, Paul. Center pin is positive on the Sony power connector. Paul Kellett December 13th, 2009, 04:07 PM Thanks Dave. Paul. |
