Hi guys

I am feeling a little down at the moment

I entered the www.nokiashorts.com 15 second short film competiton.

I shot a great 15 second short, which many a people loved and laughed at (with, not at! :)), however it didn't get shortlisted into the final top 10.

I post a link here for you to watch it. Let me know what you think, and if you have seen the others on the nokia shorts site, how you think it stands.

Somehow the extension on my downloaded file was .mpeg instead
of .mp4. After renaming it to the latter it opened fine in QuickTime.

It was a nice and silly short, but I thought the "old" look was a bit
over the top for my taste.

I finally opened it using QT here at work (newer QT version than I had at home) and was able to watch it.

I think as a short on its own it stands well. I noticed most of the other shorts on the Nokiashorts web site involved people and dialogue which perhaps could have been a contributing factor to why it was not selected.

The thing is you never really know what they are looking for and in some ways, it really is luck although no one likes to think of it that way.

I think my standing point now after watching the finalists of the competiton is that compared to the others, my short lacks in story.

It is fun to watch, and as someone else mentioned, when not being compared to anything else it holds its own.

Beleive it or not, a lot of thought went into this film. We did 1 day of test shooting, to find out the best POV for the camera and for trying out different colours, backgrounds etc. We then did 2 seperate days of shooting, and even shot a few takes on Super 8MM! I think we did around 16 takes in total - and totally overdosed in eating the wasted mangos!!!

Aside from the creative impact of the film, I really like it from a technical point of view too. The camera neither cuts, nor changes position. The whole story is told within the confines of the single frame. The film also gets around one of the limitations of the 15 second framework by manipulating time. None of the other films from either years have used these techniques.

Anyway keep the feedback rolling in, it's great to hear your views
