Just wondering what color temperature TV studio lighting would be? 3200k? Thanks!

I suspect it varies from station to station, depending on budgets. But fluorescent panels have become very popular for such sets and I therefore suspect that the normal color temperatures used are now closer to 5500 degrees Kelvin.

The lamps in one of our main BBC studios in Cardiff run at about 2800 to 3000K. We don't use fluorescent tubes in the studio - only for location work (Kinoflos etc) as well as tungsten.

Out of curiosity, Robin, do you balance your cameras to the 2800K, or let them go "warm," with the lower kelvin temperature? I would guess that you need to balance the cameras, or you would have some weird scenic and wardrobe results. On the other hand, your faces will look nice and warm.

WE use Halogens in the school studio in a mix of fixtures from broad to focused.

Channel 7 in San Francisco uses Halogens inside of very large softboxes made for strobes. They say they have a fire once in a while but nobody likes the alternatives. Definitely no Flos or HMI.

In both cases, the cameras are balanced to the studio lights.
