The company down the street from me (fullcompass.com) has an XL2 for rent for $900/month. 1 week is $350.

Does this seem high?

Their Dvx100 rental is 220 for a week or 550 for a month.

Seems reasonable. Maybe a teensy bit high. The DVX rental sounds cheap.

Here in Australia you can borrow $21,000 for a full XL2 kit (Cam, tripod, 3x wide lens, Matte Box, Rails, 2 IDX V-mounts batteries, radio mic kit, camera light and pay only $420 AU per month.

Mind you, you are then committed for 5 years!

I was going to make mine available for rent to a friends company that rents high-end studio cameras, since I only use it occasionally and they are renting cheaper then what I needed to do in my area (south-eastern Virginia) given the demand (low, but occasional). So that seems like a bargain. If I knew I could rent it frequently, I could do it for about that price.

Now, how is 30.00 / day a bit high for a 5000.00 system? Even if you rented it on a 4 day week at 250.00, 200.00 or even 100.00 / day that's the best rate I could image being given. They are giving it away at that rate!

That seems like a decent price. $900/month. The closest (and only, I believe) rental company to me is renting out the canon xl2 for no cheaper than $1400/month.

Wait a minute...I know nothing about rental prices but how come the only 3 rental houses I can find in Dallas all charge around $250 a day for their XLs and DVX100s? I'm talking about:

http://www.mpsfilm.com
http://www.mldvideo.com

Anyone know of any other rental houses in Dallas?

Also, how does renting from an out of state company work, like Birns and Sawyer?

I'm going to be shooting a short film in March for one day and need a DVX100 or XL2 and would also like a mini35 (w/ lens(es), follow focus), boom/mic, and tripod/head. I've got a budget of around $700. Is this feasible, and what would be the best way to rent?

Xiaoli. Did you not notice that those rates were for a month. That 250.00 rate is typical for the DVX and XL-2 for a day or two, even here in the ATL. Some places will do 3-4 day weeks. When you divide the number of days of a month into those figures in the above post (www.dvinfo.net/conf/showthread.php?postid=251420#post251420) those are some great day rates.
