Hello all,

I've been using the Samson Micro 32 series on my GL2's for weddings on my 'main' camera. They pick up all audio pretty well, but have been tinkering with the idea of using Canon DM-50 shotgun mic's with the lav's as well to pick up even more of ambient noise... which would be helpful when the priest or officiant goes off to read a sermon or something a good distance away from the groom... who of course is wired up with the lav.

However, I can't figure out a way to do that. The DM-50 is a hot shoe item, and the lav connects to the mini jack on the camera, which once hooked up, kills the audio from the hotshoe.

I'm willing to go with a different set up, if that means buying XLR stuff and what not... but I'm set on keeping the micro 32's for sure that have the XLR output on them.

Any ideas and/or feedback would be great!

I guess the Lav is NOT a wireless lav? If that is the case, many folks here swear by a minidisk recorder. Just hook the lav up to it and it will record, while the cam catches the audio with the shotgun.

No, the lav is a wireless. When I speak of it I'm talking about the receiver:)
I've thought about a minidisk type route, but prefer everything on the DV tape... nice and simple... two birds, one stone!

That makes it a little tricky then... Do you have a second lav? Try plugging the shotgun into the second transmitter, and then you would have both mics going thru the reciever into the cam. I just don't know where you could put the reciever.

I use a Samson UM32 wireless and Senn ME66 together. So to answer your question, you'll need an audio adapter like the BeachTek with XLR connections. Works nice.
BTW, some people like using a MiniDisc, but I've only had limited success with it.

What has worked real well is using 2 wireless systems, one for the groom and one at the podium. I use this setup when the podium is too far away for the shotgun.

I was using a Korg hard disk recorder /mixer , and thought it was great. Of course, I don't do Weddings, so it might not be right for you guys. However, I could sit it in a corner, and run my wireless lavs into it, as well as anything from a house board.

I have even plugged a wireless transmitter into it's headphone jack, and plugged headphones into the reciever, to monitor what was being recorded.

Hey guys, thanks for some of the advice. After surfing and reading tons of posts, I have my choices narrowed down to what I need. I simply have to part with the DM-50 as the hot-shoe route just won't work (the audio gets cut off once you're plugged into the 'mic' mini jack on the camera).
