View Full Version : DVFilm Maker 2.1 converts HDV to 24P

See http://dvfilm.com/fx1

The program has been modified to read 60i/50i Mpeg-2 or Mpeg-2 transport files directly, and convert to 24P/25P Quicktime with your choice of codec. You can then edit with any 24P/25P-capable editing program including older versions of Premiere and FCP.

The results look to me much sharper than DV-24P frames and should transfer to film well. I am anxious for others to try it before we release the software. It will be provided as a free update to existing users of Maker.

Marcus!

Excellent! I look forward to using and reviewing your new version for HDV! Let us know when you'll have a version for Mac!

Marcus, does the program accept progressive or is it still limited to interlaced. The reason I asked is that, at least for the jvc hd10, its two best resolutions are in transport stream progressive not interlaced (1280 and 720).

Thanks

As far as I know, they only support 1080i, not progressive.

BTW, does make work with no loss of resolution, if not, then what percentage loss is expected?

There is no perceivable loss of resolution.

There is zero loss of resolution for areas of the screen where there is little or no movement. For areas of the screen where there are rapidly moving objects, there is a 50% loss, however it's usually not perceivable in real time because of the movement.

Regarding JVC HD10 30P source material, the only use there for Maker 2.1 is to convert 30P mpeg-2 transport to 30P quicktime (deinterlacing and 24P processing would need to be turned off), no 30P to 24P conversion is possible, at least not with Maker. If your goal is transfer to film or a 24P DVD, I would advise don't shoot with the JVC HD10, get an FX1, XL2 or DVX100.

Unfortunately we've not the bandwidth to do that. I see that the clips at http://www.hdvinfo.net/media/kakugyo/ are gone. If they came back you could download the 60i samples and process them with the software at http://dvfilm.com/fx1

Marcus,

We're going to have more clips up soon, esp. since I'm now experimenting/testing the FX1.
