This may sound like overkill for some, but has anyone tried using an add-on mattebox on the GS400, GS100 or DV953?

Or which external soundshades did improve on the standard one?

Would the smaller size Cokin fit? I can't see why not; or you can just get a screw-on hood with an adaptor---like 43mm to 52mm.

PS: what's the "standard one?"

I agree with Frank. Cokin makes several lens attachments that you might consider. One that looks pretty good is the modular bellows. (http://www.geocities.com/cokinfiltersystem/hood.htm) (Scroll down in that link.) Now, IMO, it won't work with the GS400 at full wide unless the bellows is collapsed. But, then, that is why it accordions, I suppose. It is not inexpensive though at between $120 and $190 depending on the size.

My mistake. I thought the GS400 already had some sort of sun-shade, but it has none.

There certainly is some 43 to 52mm adaptor which may let me use my 52mm filters from my Hi8 camera.

Now it's a question of looking for some rubber or plastic sunshade that can work better on the GS400. Already found a 52mm one from Cavision, which is round. My guess is a square one can work better.

Is there any bellows system that comes in 52mm?

Found several bellows systems, which will require further investigation on handling ease at the shop.

But there are at least two that look promising:

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=productlist&A=details&Q=&sku=147168&is=REG

They will require ring adaptors.

The Colkin might be the simpler and lighter one. But that red color...

I saw a picture of a DV cam with the red one on it. Can't remember which cam, but it really grabbed your attention. I liked it!
