Hey There! I appologize if this has been mentioned, but I no longer get e-mail updates notifying me of new messages to subscribed topics. Is anyone having this problem? Its a real bummer. Thanks!

The basic checklist for this is:
- Has your address changed?
- Are you sure your registered address is correct?
- Have you checked to make sure that notification is still set as default for threads to which you post?
- Failing the above, have you made sure that you are specifying notification on your posts?

Hey Ken! Yeah I have a go on everything you asked. I used to get them just fine! The only way I can see the posts is if I manually go back to the forums and look, very frustrating. I didnt change anything, and I looked all over my e-mail settings as well as the forum options. Wierd? Anyone have any ideas?

Your profile setting appear correct, with your email address as "Rob1547" at you-know-where.

Perhaps the notifications are being spam-filtered at your end?

I have experienced some latency with notifications lately. Sometimes for a whole day if not just a few hours.

Hey Ken!

I'm having trouble too.

Regarding "Have you checked to make sure that notification is still set as default for threads to which you post?", I can't find that check box where I would expect it to be (under options). Where exactly is it (and what other items surround it, in case it's hidden on my end for some reason)?

Charles,
Indeed, your admin profile has the default notification setting turned off. I fixed it in the control panel. But reviewing the CP settings accessible to users I no longer see this option. Huh! I could swear that this was once on the User CP panel, as I recall toggling it before I became and admin. Perhaps a more recent version of the BB software removed it.

I'll check into it... be advised we'll be updating our forum software soon.

I have never received a email notification of new posts to either a thread I have subscribed to, or to a forum I have subscribed to.

I always check "Email Notification" at the bottom of the thread I'm interested in.

I did receive email from your site when I registered. My email has not changed since registration.

If I go to "user cp", the threads I have subscribed to are listed at the bottom of this page. But no email.

This "user cp" page also lists the forums I have subscribed to.

Email notification works for all other sites/forums that I belong to.

Having email notification would be a great improvement.

Regards,
Pete

Pete,
Your default notification flag, and your admin email notice flag (not user-accessible), were both off. I've toggled them on. See if this makes a difference.

Ken,

Thanks for the help, but unfortunately I'm still not getting any email notifications.

I did notice that the "Email Notification" checkbox was automatically checked when I was composing my reply.

Best Regards,
Pete

Nuts. I double-checked your email address (earthlink) and it appears OK. Could Earthlink be filtering your notices as spam?

Ken,

I don't think it's an Earthlink problem.

I routinely get email from other boards that have auto-notify service.

When an email is suspected of either spam or virus infection, it is put into a special folder. I don't have any email from DVInfo.net in this folder.

Just to be absolutely sure, I have temporarily turned off spam and virus checking in my Earthlink account. I'll subscribe to several additoinal threads/forums to see if I get a notify.

Thanks again for your help.

Pete

Are you going to vBulletin 3?

It's definitely under consideration, but rest assured that if it's some other solution, the forum database will be preserved intact.

I'm experiencing the same thing as Pete--still nothing getting through, and I checked the spam folder. I am also with Earthlink. It would be interesting to see if anyone else who has this problem is or isn't with Earthlink...?

I have them turned off by default, but I've been receiving messages for all the threads I've subscribed to.

Just checked -- still not getting any notifications even with spam and virus checking turned off. So, I've turned them back on.

Maybe Charles is onto something. If no one with a earthlink address is getting notifications, then it could be some kind of problem between the dvinfo.net mail server and the earthlink servers.

Strange though, I've never had this problem with any other forum.

I just got an email notification to a thread that hasn't been posted to in months. It said Michael Sinclair posted a reply but he actually did not.

So, for the hell of it I looked up the last post Mike did make, and it was in this thread, to which I am not subscribed...

I just thought this might be related issue to others' problems. Email notifications haven't been a problem for me, but I do usually get them kind of late. My ISP is AOL.

How do you even turn email notification on by default? I've never seen that option in the CP. I have to click the option every time I post.

Chris, Ken, DVInfo.net team,

THANKS! I'm now receiving email notifications. Your efforts to make this work are much appreciated!

Having notifications is sooo much more efficient -- I can easily and quickly respond.

Best Regards,
Pete
