I shoot HD in both 720p and 1080i, use Lumiere HD (not a happy camper)
for capture and FCP 4HD for edit, render and export uncompressed 10 bit.

I'm about, I think, to purchase Squeeze Studio 4 for compression to help with web streaming.

Does anyone have any advice (Yes I read a great deal here but it's still a bit unclear, these boards led me to Squeeze 4)

I want to offer the ability to view sample steams at hi and low band and also offer streaming VOD.

I'd also like to offer both mpeg4 and mpeg2 to viewews.

I do own Mac MX with Flash as well and have been playing with that.
I know nothing about flv.

Suggestions anyone?

sorenson squeeze 4 for the pc has a neat little interface, and it allows you to get the max possible quality, because you have access to two-pass encoding for all the formats it does... not too sure about mpeg2 support, tho, if you need that, procoder is the way to go for the best quality.

you might first need flash mx or similar to be able to create those flash files(??), but squeeze will create both fla and flv... i don't do flash, but i know that only one of 'em will work as a self-encapsulated, stand-alone video clip, while the other format has to be brought into a flash app.

mpeg2 is not feasible for web streaming, the only reason you'd want it is for people to download and burn their own dvd's with.

the current implementations of open-source mpeg4 have really lousy picture quality, but we are on the verge of greatness with the upcoming h.264 mpeg4... squeeze will create those files, but unfortunately i haven't found a media player that you can play 'em back with.

if you are planning on selling streaming or downloadable video clips, you'll probably want to use windows media, because of it's digital rights management... it's a staple in the porn industry, so it has a long track record.

We go directly from FCP to Squeeze 4 (Mac) for our web video. It has an efficient workflow that lets you build batch compression jobs that share common settings and you can incorporate your own custom settings as well.

If you have a streaming server, you have several options with Squeeze. If you don't have a streaming server, Squeeze gives you several progressive download options.

You don't need Flash MX to use Flash video created with Squeeze. You can create SWF and files using Squeeze that you can embed into any web page. Squeeze gives you some players to choose from so your video will have controls on it and you won't have to build them yourself. Of course, if you have Flash MX, Sorenson also ships the source to it's players so you can customize them.

As far as Hi and Low Band goes...Squeeze has highly rated algorithms for QT and QT has a feature that lets you create a number of bandwidth versions but present them on your web site web as a single file. The QT setting in the web visitor's player for connection speed will result in the proper video being selected on the server. To read more about this and other QuickTime features, take a look here:
