Has anyone used this shotgun mic? It's only 9" long. I would like some to mount on the camera. I just wonder how the AT 835st is compared to the AT 897.

The AT835ST is a stereo shotgun mic and costs about $600.
The AT835b is an older design, mono shotgun that's longer physically and costs about $240.
The newer AT897 mono shotgun is about $280 and has very good sound, low self-noise and solid construction for this price point.
The 835ST is supposed to be a good sounding, convenient mic if you want a stereo shotgun. It has 3 stereo patterns that allow flexibility in recording and post-production. I've never used one, only read about it.

NBC first used the 835ST during the Olympic Games in Australia, and at other Olympics since then.

Reviews of it and other mics are available in my review archives on my site

I use one. The only gotcha is that it has a higher voltage output than a Beachtek DXA-8 can handle, so attenuators are required for loud recording (bands, autoracing, etc.) The AT8202? switchable attenuators (-10, -20, -30) are great and work with phantom voltage.
