Hi all, I have a Canon XM2 (GL2). I'm trying to find out which mic is a better option for capturing sound/voices from a distance - the MKE 300D or the ME66? Also, is the difference between the Canon XM2 (GL2) built in mic and Sennheisser mics I've mentioned significant enough to warrant buying either of these mics. Just how much of an improvement is there? Thanks.

The purchase for Senn is warranted.

The GL2 doesnt have XLR input unless you have the lil box.
The MKE300 will connect to the GL without a problem.
The ME66 will need a module, such as a K6 to supply power.
It will also need an XLR input to the cam, or if you can find someone who knows theyre stuf, they can make an adapted cable for.

There both good mics, but the ME66 is about twice as much $$ with the Power Module.

I own both of these mics.
The ME66 is definitely the better mic, with superior audio. It also costs substantialy more and you need an XLR adapter to get the feed into your camera. IMHO, it is worth the money over the MKE300, if you can afford it.

I'd put my money towards an Audio Technica AT-897.
I sold my ME66 and got the AT-897.
The ME66 was just too hot of a mic for my GL2. It often easily overloaded the mic inputs and I ended up with distorted audio.

I own the ME66 as well, and unless Dylan can prove me wrong, I would have liked to get something that is not as hot, has more directional characteristics, better range (I got range, but it picks up too much ambient noise), and gave a warmer qualitly.

The At-897 sounds good. Or if you can afford it, the Senn 416.

Get whatever suits your needs the best. I just bought the ME66 because it once belonged to web legend Keith Loh.
