Okay, I am hoping to get the Sony z1 HDV, if its 4999, soon, and am starting to think about how I transistion my video. All my material now is 4/3 DV. Assuming I start taking 16/9 HDV later in the year, I am starting to think how I would want to produce my family christmas video at the end of the year. So, anyone given this any thought yet?

Also, how about existing DV video. Is using SD tools the best one can do, or, are there newer tools that make the end product better? I hear the new HD tools will give much better authoring options that we have today, but, these seem to be a few years off before cost effective and debugged.

It's not entirely clear what you are asking.

Various existing NLEs can handle DV and HDV clips on a single timeline. Some of the DVD authoring packages will handle a mixture of 4:3 and 16:9 clips.

Standalone players handling HD WMV are coming on the market at present, and existing DVD-burning software can burn compatable disks for them.

So many options are available, really.
