I work at a camera store in St. Louis where I get a pretty good discount on the XL2. We only have the origional version with the film grain button and wont be getting the new ones in for some time. Is it worth the wait for the new version or does it not really matter. Was anything better ADDED to the new one, or just the film grain taken away?

It's just the film grain taken away. They placed another button on it, but that already existed or something like it (color bars I think)

I think it isn't really worth the waiting.

Nothing has been added to the post-filmgrain version, there are no new buttons or new features. The only difference is that film grain has been taken away. The "color bars / film grain" button has been re-purposed as "color bars" only. See this thread for more info (http://www.dvinfo.net/conf/showthread.php?s=&threadid=37052).

I'd say go with the film grain one, the "new" version isn't different at all except for the film grain feature being removed, as has been stated already. Hey, you never know, maybe one day you'll actually find a use for the film grain feature! =)

if it is possible for you to wait for newer xl2 without film grain do so . unless of corse you want the film grain . my reason .first i know next to nothing about cameras its not my feild only hobbie .i do know machines .this change to the xl2 was at the factory level . it would only make sence to tweek any other areas of the camera that canon may seem fit .this happens all the time in the auto industry . options or features on a car may change from year to year .they may not tell you about inprovements in the front ball joints lets say or head gaskets and so on . i have a newer xl2 just got it from zotz i dont know if there are any other diffrances from the grain camera . but i can say i am very happy with this camera . wish you the best .dp

Thanks all. I think Im just going to get the older one. I dont mind the film grain button being there so as long as theres nothing new, Ill live with it.

My XL2 is in front of me still in the box. I took it out and low and behold, mine has the Film Grain feature!

No big deal to me I guess...I'm guessing I'll never use it though.

Correct, you will never want to use it. No big deal.
