I'm wondering how many of you have had a very noticable dead pixel on a new XL1S...or am I the only lucky one?

I had one hour on the drum when I finally sent the video to a monitor and, much to my chagrin, the dead pixel put a bright "pimple" on all of my subjects - almost in the worst place.

Just caught it a day before the camera went out of the 3 month warranty for the CCD block.

A trip to Canon Service is called for, they should be able to mask out that pixel. I don't know what the cost is; you're not saying where you are. Hope this helps,

Thanks Chris. I think I should be getting the under warranty. I live about an hour from the Irvine Service Center and have sent it there. I hope the masking can take care of the problem even at + gain levels.

I was surprised that Canon's quality control doesn't check the output of each camera at this price point. The dead pixel was really obvious and probably was there from the moment of manufacture. I'll let you know what comes of it.

Thanks again.

If they do it *right,* then the pixel should be masked even under high gain conditions (12 or 18 but probably not 30). I think hand-carrying it into Irvine would be a good idea. Let us know what happens and good luck,
